Concordia Comic Book Club
Welcome to Concordia Comic Book Club, also known as Concordia Comics. We’re a Concordia University MTL student group dedicated to the enjoyment, discussion, study, and creation of comic books. The main goal of this club is to provide engaging and welcoming spaces for any comic book enthusiasts to gather together and discuss anything and everything related to comics – whether they’re a casual reader, hardcore fan, academic scholar, or a producer of graphic novels, manga, webcomics and any other types of sequential art, in both traditional and digital formats and in cross-media adaptations such as films, TV, and games.

Club Objectives and Benefits to the Concordia community
-
Providing dedicated physical and online environments where students can socialise, meet new people and make friends based on a shared interest and passion for comics.
-
Being able to host relevant events that are not regularly available to students, such as weekly/bi-weekly/monthly comic reading groups, comic jams, and more.
-
Increasing awareness, recognition and representation for comics as a unique and valid form of art and literature worthy of appreciation and critical discourse.
-
Allowing for academic analyses of comics through an informed multidisciplinary (sociological, cultural, psychological, creative, etc.) and interdisciplinary lens in an informal setting, without the pressures of grading.
-
Making comics more accessible to the student body. The club can assist members with finding and reading new comics in traditional and digital formats, and can open dialogues about how to improve accessibility with regard to consuming comics through highlighting the existence of comics created by and for marginalised groups.
-
In connection with the previous point, with funding and if granted a club room, the club can build up a dedicated comic book library that will be accessible to everyone.
-
Tapping an enormous amount of unprecedented potential for internal and external collaboration: Joining forces with professors and researchers who are engaged in work related to comics, and reaching out to external organisations (Montreal Comiccon, Montreal Comic Arts Festival, Montreal ToyCon, Canadian Society for the Study of Comics, comic book stores, and many others) in order to collaborate on events that are currently not available on campus or easily accessible to the Concordia community.
-
Creating new volunteer opportunities for students to serve the Concordia community while honing their leadership and organisational skills through managing a group that they’re passionate about.
